NEW YORK—Australian mining enterpriser Clive Palmer on Tuesday unveiled(公布)blueprints for TitanicⅡ, a modern copy of the doomed ocean liner, although he didn’t call the ship unsinkable any more.

The ship will largely recreate the design and decoration of the fabled original, with some modifications to keep it in line with current safety rules and shipbuilding practices, and the addition of some modern comforts such as air conditioning, Palmer said at a press conference in New York.

The three passenger classes, however, will be prevented from mingling(混杂), as in 1912, Palmer said. “I’m not too superstitious(迷信的). ”Palmer said when asked whether recreating a ship best-known for sinking was tempting fate.

White Star Line, the operator of the original ship, had said the Titanic was designed to be unsinkable. About 1, 500 people died on Titanic’s maiden voyage in 1912 from Southampton to New York after the ship collided with an iceberg in the North Atlantic.

Palmer, who created the company Blue Star Line last year, refused to make a similar boast.

“Anythi ng will sink if you put a hole in it, ”Palmer said. “I think it would be very cavalier to say it. ”

Unlike the original, TitanicⅡwill have more than enough space in its lifeboats for every person on board and will have additional escape staircases. Markku Kanerva, sales director at Deltamarin, the Finnish company designing the ship, said it would be the“safest cruise ship in the wo rld”.

Palmer refused to answer questions about the project’s cost. Although the Titanic was the world’s largest ship in her time, she would be smaller than many of today’s modern cruise ships.

“It’s not about the money, ”Palmer said. “I’ve got enough money for it.

I think that’s all that matters. ”

Forbesestimated Palmer’s net worth to be $795 million in 2012. He describes himself as a billionaire.

TitanicⅡwill be built by Chinese state-owned CSC Jinling Shipyard, which is already building four ore carriers for Palmer’s mining business, he

said. The contract to build TitanicⅡhas not yet been signed, Palmer said.

(2013·衡阳模拟) You and your friends are settling into your seats. The new Spider-Man movie is about to start and you’ve got the snacks: soda and popcorn. Food is part of what makes the movie fun.

Just as the lights go out, you catch a slight smell of. . . tuna fish? ! You turn your head, searching for the source. Then you spot him: A couple rows back, some guy is enjoying a tuna fish sandwich. How’d he get that here? You wonder. Then you remember how much you paid for your snacks.

What invites the unwelcome outside food is probably the price. Why pay $5 for a bag of M&Ms when you can get them for a dollar at the corner store?

Earlier this year, a Michigan man decided to fight for his right to snacks. Joshua Thompson is suing(起诉)his local theater after it banned outside food. He argues the ban breaks a Michigan law that prevents businesses from charging extremely high prices. However, most legal experts believe Thompson has little chance of winning his case, though he

does have a point: 85 cents out of every dollar of treats a movie theatre sells is pure profit.

The truth is that movie theaters are more in the snack business than the movie business. A huge part of the ticket income goes to the Hollywood studio. This makes sense, since the studios have to pay the costs of movie production and advertising. But that often doesn’t leave much cash for the theater, which also has its own running costs. If customers stopped buying food, owners would have to raise ticket prices even higher.

Of course, there’s another reason to think twice before bringing food into the theaters: It’s against the rules. Breaking those rules can have unpleasant consequences too. Some theaters will kick you out if they catch you. Even without the threat of punishment, we should follow rules all the time—out of respect.

Here’s a good idea: Eat before the movie.

6. What is the topic of the text?

A. The pleasure of enjoying snacks.

B. A Michigan man’s fight for his right.

C. Movie theaters’ban on outside food.

D. Bad manners in movie theaters.

7. What can we infer about the guy mentioned in Paragraph 2?

A. He prefers eating things in the dark.

B. He brought the sandwich from outside.

C. He showed little interest in the new movie.

D. He dislikes the food provided by the cinema.

8. What do we know about Joshua Thompson?

A. He broke a Michigan law.

B. He is likely to lose the case.

C. He thinks cinema tickets are too expensive.

D. He was forbidden to have snacks at the theater.

9. In Paragraph 5 the author mainly explains.

A. how movie studios work with movie theaters

B. how movie theaters reduce their operating costs

C. why Hollywood studios must pay high costs

D. why snack sales are important to movie theaters

10. How does the author feel about bringing outside food into the cinema?

A. It is unacceptable.

B. It is convenient.

C. It is great fun.

D. It is lawful.

Michelle Obama made a daring decision to return to the same designer who created her Inaugural(就职的)Ball dress four years ago—and the risk

paid off.

The First Lady looked extremely attractive in a thin, sweeping, and ruby-colored dress by designer Jason Wu. She teamed the dramatic gown with heels by Jimmy Choo and a diamond ring by Kimberly McDonald.

She surprised the fashion establishment by returning to a Wu design which had been custom-made for her.

Four years ago at her first Inauguration Ball, Michelle shimmered in an off-white, one-shouldered floor-length couture gown by the designer.

Wu, who was 26 at the time and had only been working in fashion for three years, saw his career take off after the First Lady’s surprise decision to wear one of his dresses.

He said at the time that he was unaware she had chosen the gown and had been watching at home on his couch and eating pizza when she appeared.

After her 2013 decision, Wu told Women’s Wear Daily: “Mrs Obama likes to keep her secrets. She fooled me again. ”

Wu released a women’s clothing and accessories(装饰品)collection at Target last year and continues to be popular with the First Lady for official engagements.

The sleeveless, cross-halterneck dress with low-cut back flattered 49-year-old Michelle’s toned arms and neat waist.

It had been created especially for her by Wu and was a departure from

the dark and plain color tone she stuck to at earlier inauguration events.

Mrs Obama’s new hairstyle—she had bangs cut in on her birthday last week—had been loosely tousled for the special night.

Vice-President Joe Biden’s wife Jill also looked glamorous in a blue silk dress by Vera Wang at the Inauguration Ball.

11. Michelle Obama’s brave decision proved to be a.

D. surprise

12. According to the passage, which of the following is CORRECT?

A. Joe Biden’s wife Jill also had her dress created by Wu.

B. Mrs Obama’s inaugural dresses were made by the same designer.

C. The color tone at Michelle’s earlier inaugural events was not satisfactory.

D. Mrs Obama had straight forehead hair as her new hairstyle for the special night.

13. From the 6th and 7th paragraphs we know that.

A. Wu didn’t know Mrs Obama had chosen his creation again

B. Wu was aware that Mrs Obama had chosen his work again

C. Mrs Obama told Wu to give away her secrets
