Dawn Loggins of Lawndale, N．C., is on her way to Harvard, one of the eight world-famous universities in the eastern US. Nobody encouraged her to study or paid for her special classes. This girl created her own future.
The teen was abandoned (遗弃) by her family last summer, when her parents and two sisters moved to Tennessee. She found herself homeless and had to spend the night on friends? sofas.
The school bus driver le arned about Dawn?s situation and invited Dawn to move in with her family. Soon, Dawn had a job at Burns High School. When I was a boy, we had several gardens around our old house. The largest one of all was used just for growing potatoes. I can still remember those potato planting
days. The whole family came to help.
After my Dad had turned the soil, my mom, brothers, and I went to work. It was my job to drop the little seed potatoes in the rows while my Mom dropped fertilizer (肥料) beside them. My brothers then covered them all with the freshly turned soil.
For months afterward I would look over at the garden while I played outside. I wondered what was going on under the ground. When the harvest (收获) time came, I was amazed at the huge size of the potatoes my Dad pulled out of the soil.
They would be cooked into baked potatoes, fried potatoes, and my favorite: potatoes cooked in gravy. They would keep my family well fed through the whole year. It was truly a miracle (奇迹)．
As the saying goes, “We harvest what we have planted.” Yes, it is true. We all should take good care of the garden of our life with whole hearts. What we plant could only be goodness, peace, and compassion (同情) for others. So, we can harvest miracles one after another.

My father used to work in the city and seldom stayed at home. But he would come back and help to harvest (收割) rice every year.
One autumn, he promised to help our neighbor, who lost his arms in a traffic accident in 1999, to harvest his rice. After father harvested our own, his little rice picker broke. What?s worse, he had to return to work the next day because his partner was ill in hospital. It meant that father wouldn?t be back in a few days. It now seemed impossible to help out the neighbor.

Jenny liked planting flowers in her yard. Her grandfather used to teach her how to plant and care for flowers. So her yard was the most beautiful one in her village.

When it arrived, Jenny planted it at the bottom of a stone wall at the back of her yard. It grew well, with beautiful green leaves. Day after day, she felt disappointed. She wondered why her plant hadn?t bloomed (开花). She wanted to cut it down and planted something else in its place.
