One morning as I was on my way to work, I was shocked by a sharp, tense(紧张的) call of a bird. The sound was coming from somewhere in the branches of the oak tree.

This was not the usual birdsong(鸟鸣). Instead, this was a call of danger, and it didn’t take long for me to discover what it was about. As I looked around, I noticed a baby bird sitting on the ground under the oak tree, while the mother bird was flying in the sky and calling its baby. That’s where the birdsong came from. The bird seems scared. Clearly, this baby was on its first flight and had some difficulty.

I’m sure that it needed some help. I went to see if I could place it back in its nest(巢). But when I went near, I

suddenly realized that it would not be helpful to give that help, because it might make the mother bird fly away rather than try to go near. And if I placed it back, it would surely lose a chance to learn how to fly. So I stopped and stepped back.

Later, as I saw it fly away safely with its mom, I knew everything was OK for the birds. It was then that I got a better understanding of my purpose in this situation and in life. I am not the savior(救世主); I am just a usual person. Sometimes the road to hell is paved with good intentions(好心办坏事). 46. The baby bird’s call was ___________.

You might expect native(本土的) English speakers to be the best at speaking the English language. But some experts believe that when it comes to successfully communicating in English, non-native English speakers are actually better at it.

"Often you have a room full of people from different countries communicating in English and all understanding each other. And then suddenly the American or British person walks into the room and nobody can understand them,"Chia Suan Chong, a UK-based communication culture expert, told the BBC.

Chong said that happens because non-native speakers communicate more carefully. "English speakers, on the other hand, often talk too fast, use jokes, slang(俚语) and make references(引用材料) to their country that others might not understand,"Chong said.

It is something that I keep in mind when talking to my Chinese colleagues(同事). I am careful to speak slowly and use words I know they will understand. Sometimes we confuse(使困惑) each other though. Once I told my colleague "no dramas", which means "no problem". She thought I was calling her a drama queen(咋呼女王) though, and got upset!

But don’t worry, experts say that it is the native speaker’s mistake if they can’t understand you, not yours! "English speakers with no other language often lack awareness(缺乏意识) of how to speak English internationally,"said English language teacher Dale Coulter.

The best way to avoid any trouble might be to ask for some patience. If you find it difficult to understand an English speaker, don’t be afraid to ask them to slow down and spea k clearly.

Wang Jinyuan is an eighth-grader at Chongzhou High School, Sichuan. But thanks to an online course he is studying with his peers(同龄人) at Yucai Middle School in Chengdu. "It’s like I have classes together with students at Yucai," Wang said.

Wang is not alone. Students from more than 200 schools in rural(乡村的) areas of Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou are doing the same thing. They all use the online courses made by Yucai Middle School. The school

started the online course program in 2007.

The online courses give students new ideas. They can learn from their peers studying in the city. "I

remember that a topic in English class was about volunteering," said Wan Linyi, 14. "Students in Chengdu shared a lot about their own experiences. But it was hard for me to talk about it _____________ I had little experience. It encouraged me to do more."

But students don’t completely reply on online courses. They still interact with(和……互动) teachers. In fact, the teachers edit the videos before using them. "I cut off some parts, like the discussion parts," said Zhang

Xiaomin, Wan’s English teacher. "I will let my students discuss by themselves, rather than only watch. Then, if necessary, I will show them what their peers said in their discussion. We benefit(受益) a lot from it." Teachers further explain key points that students don’t understand. Also, students can re -watch the videos after class. 66题完成句子;67题简略回答问题;68题在文中的横线上,填写一个恰当的单词;69题将文中画线句子译成汉语;70题用英语简要概括出本文的主旨大意。
