and see a brown sofa surrounding a low glass-top wooden table. To the right of the living room is my first bedroom. It's empty, but it's where my earliest memories are.

There is the dining room table where I celebrated birthdays, and where I cried on Halloween-when I didn't want to wear the skirt my mother made for me. I always liked standing on that table because it made me feel tall and strong. If I sit at this table, I can see my favorite room in the house, my parents' room. It is simple: a brown wooden dresser lines the right side of the wall next to a television and a couple of photos of my grandparents on each side. Their bed is my safe zone. I can jump on it anytime - waking up my parents if I am scared or if I have an important announcement that cannot wait until the morning.

I'm lucky because I know my first home still exists. It exists in my mind and heart, on a physical property(住宅) on West 64th street on the western edge of Los Angeles. It is proof I lived, I grew and I learned.

Sometimes when I feel lost, I lie down and shut my eyes, and I go home. I know it's where I'll find my family, my dogs, and my belongings. Fear may be felt in the heart as well as in the head, according to a study that has found a link between the cycles of a beating heart and the chance of someone feeling fear.

Tests on healthy volunteers found that they were more likely to feel a sense of fear at the moment

when the heartbeat is relaxed. Scientists say the results suggest that the heart is able to influence how the brain responds to a fearful event, depending on which point it is at in its regular cycle of contraction and relaxation.

Sarah Garfinkel at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School said: "Our study shows for the first time that the way in which we deal with fear is different depending on when we see fearful pictures in relation to our heart."

The study tested 20 healthy volunteers on their reactions to fear as they were shown pictures of fearful faces. Dr Garfinkel said, "The study showed that fearful faces are better noticed when the heart is pumping than when it is relaxed. Thus our hearts can also affect what we see and what we don't see - and guide whether we see fear."

To further understand this relationship, the scientists also used a brain scanner(扫描仪) to show how the brain influences the way the heart changes a person's feeling of fear.

"We have found an important mechanism by which the heart and brain ‘speak’to each other to change our feelings and reduce fear," Dr Garfinkel said.

"We hope that by increasing our understanding about how fear is dealt with and ways that it could be reduced, we may be able to develop more successful treatments for anxiety disorders, and also for those for those who may be suffering from serious stress disorder."

47. What is the finding of the study?

A. One's heart affects how he feels fear.

B. fear is a result of one's relaxed heartbeat.

C. fear has something to do with one's health.

D. Ones fast heartbeats are likely to cause fear.

48. The study was carried out by analyzing _______.

A. volunteers' heartbeats when they saw terrible pictures

B. the time volunteers saw fearful pictures and their health conditions

C. volunteers' reactions to horrible pictures and data form their brain scans

D. different pictures shown to volunteers and their heart-brain communication

49. Which of the following is closest in meaning to "mechanism" in Paragraph 6?

A. Order.

B. system.

C. Machine.

D. Treatment.

50.This study may contribute to _______.

A. treating anxiety and stress better

B. explaining the cycle of fear and anxiety

C. finding the sky to the heart-brain communication

D. understanding different fears in our hearts and heads

1. A. I really envy you. B. Glad to hear that. C. Sounds great. D. Take it easy.

A 选项“one”表泛指,D 选项“it”表示同类同物,C 选项“this”不能用于类比的结构之中,故正确答案为C。

A 选项“or”意为“否则”;B 选项“and”意为“并且”,表顺接;C 选项“but”意为“但是”,表转折;D 选项“so”意为“所以”。

“even if”意为“尽管,即使”,“as if”意为“好像”,“because”意为“因为”,“before”意为“在……

(The girl is) not knowing which university to attend, (so) the girl asked her teacher for advice.

11. A. Hat 帽子,B. scarf 头巾,C .scars 伤痕、伤疤,D. cuts 割伤、划伤,从后文得知男孩是被烫油烧伤,所以头上应该是伤痕,也可以从下文“But she’ll be____with scars on her head.”

12. A.Still 仍然,B.just 仅仅,C.never 从不,D.seldom 几乎不,从前面的eventhough 引导的让步状语从句可以看出作者仍然觉得听到那些外号觉得糟糕,所以答案是A。

14. A.Be rushed to 被紧急送到,B.be led to 被带到,C.be invited to 被邀请到,D.be forced to 被迫到,作者烧伤后,应该是被紧急送到医院,所以答案是A。

15. A. Learn to do 学习做,B. fight to do 努力做、拼命做,C. return to do 返回做,D.decide to do 决定做,根据文意,应该是医生努力地拯救了我的生命,而不是才学着做或者入院几周了才决定拯救作者的生命,所以答案是B。

17. A .Be pressed with 窘迫于,B.be occupied with 忙于,C. be left with 被留下,D. be painted with 被画上,本题应该是头上留下了伤痕,所以答案是C。

21. A.Be promoted to 被提拔为,B.be introduced to 被引荐到,被介绍到,C.be reported to 被报道为,

22. A .Meet 遇到,B .recognize 认出,C .remember 记得,D .catch 找到,所以答案是A。

24. A. Write down 写下,B. agree with 赞同,C .pass on 传递,D .listen to 听,后半句说“我们和别人没什么不同”,所以是不要停别人怎么说,所以答案是D.

25. A.Promise 承诺,B.encourage 鼓励,C.order 命令,D.calm 使冷静,根据题意,Stephanie 应该是鼓励我,所以答案是B.

57.Jackie 对nursing 的看法可以回到原文这个句子“Nursing is hard if you do it correctly, but I love my job.” It’s hard but she loves it.

58.按照上边的方法我们在原文找到相关内容“She retrained after her 12 years old daughter developed this disease.” this disease 指的就是diabetes所以就要写明是什么病,答案就是After her daughter developed diabetes.

59.文中原句“Jackie believes nursing should be protected from government cuts.” Not to make cuts in nursing.

60.文中原句“she doesn’t think I should work as much as I do”可以知道她女儿认为她工作量太大,所以答案是She thinks her mother works too hard/much.

62.1. find sth. adj.

65.4. let ’sb. do sth. 故“to copy”改为“copy”

67.6. Mary 和我是两个人,表示两者都应该用both,故“all”改为“both”

68.7. same 在使用时通常和定冠词the 搭配,如the same as, I’m in the same class with you. 故“same”改为“the same”

How Learning Habits Influence On Learning Results It’s useful and necessary to discuss learning habits. There is a famous saying “Good habits lead to good endings.” , which shows the importance of habits.

“An apple a day keeps doctor away .”also shows how a healthy everyday habit helps to build up our body. Thus, good learning habits can help us gain great learning results including high scores and abundant knowledge . At first, learning habits form our ways of thinking and a ttitudes towards the content of our learning. Obviously, a good habit can help us to speed up to reach our destinations. As we can see, cul tivating a good habit is so important that I would like to introduce one kind of good learning habits----keep a learning diary everyday. We can start the habit by writing learning summary and remember to record something impressive and meaningful. Keep it in mind, and gradually we can gain this good learning habit and benefit from it.

What’s more, I find out that I still have some bad learning habits as well. I can just concentrate on reading for a short time and I will conquer this problem by spend more effort on concentration practice.

I believe that through my efforts, I can gain good learning results by having good habits.

It was a scene that had been repeated many times in the theater’s 75-year history. This time, however, the cleanup was a little different. As one group of workers carried out the rubbish, another group began removing seats and other theater equipment in preparation for the building’s end. The film classic The Last Picture Show was the last movie shown in the old theater. Though the movie is 30 years old, most of the 250 seats were filled with teary-eyed audience wanting to say good-be to the old building. Theater owner Ed Bradford said he chose the movie because it seemed appropriate. The movie is set in a small town where the only movie theater is preparing to close down. Bradford said that large modern theaters in the city made it impossible for the Plaza to compete. He added that the theater’s location(位置) was also a reason. “This used to be the center of town,” he said. “Now the area is mostly office buildings and warehouses.” Last week some city officials suggested the city might be interested in turning the old theater into a museum and public meeting place. However, these plans were abandoned because of financial problems. Bradford sold the building and land to a local development firm, which plans to build a shopping complex on the land where the theater is located. The theater audience said good-by as Bradford locked the doors for the last time. After 75 years the Plaza Theater has shown its last movie. The theater will be missed. 24. In what way was yesterday’s cleanup at the Plaza special? A. It made room for new equipment. B. It signaled the closedown of the theater. C. It was done with the help of the audience. D. It marked the 75th anniversary of the theater. 25. Why was The Last Picture Show put on? A. It was an all-time classic. B. It was about the history of the town. C. The audience requested it. D. The theater owner found it suitable. 26. What will probably happen to the building? A. It will be repaired. B. It will be turned into a museum. C. It will be knocked down. D. It will be sold to the city government. 27. What can we infer about the audience? A. They are disappointed with Bradford. B. They are sad to part with the old theater. C. They are supportive of the city officials. D. They are eager to have a shopping center. C After years of heated debate, gray wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park. Fourteen wolves were caught in Canada and transported to the park. By last year, the Yellowstone wolf population had grown to more than 170 wolves. Gray wolves once were seen here and there in the Yellowstone area and much of the continental United States, but they were gradually displaced by human development. By the 1920s, wolves had practically disappeared from the Yellowstone area. They went farther north into the deep forests of Canada, where there were fewer humans around. The disappearance of the wolves had many unexpected results. Deer and elk populations —major food sources (来源) for the wolf – grew rapidly. These animals consumed large amounts of vegetation (植被), which reduced plant diversity in the park. In the absence of wolves,
