Now more and more parents have their children learn to play music. They think musicians have a lot of advantages. They get much satisfaction from playing music and they can use their skills to make a good living. Now, a new research suggests that musicians benefit in another way. They are better at learning languages.
Some researchers in Hong Kong made the research. It showed that children who were studying music had better memories in learning languages than children who were not. Ninety boys, aged six to fifteen，were tested on their ability to remember words a list. Half of them were learning to play musical instruments（乐器），while the half were not. The researchers found that the children who were studying music much better verbal memory. The longer they studied music, the better their memories were. Studying music seemed to help the brain develop in ways that helped it process information, although the researchers were not sure why. In any case, improved verbal is very helpful to the children, and seems to make it easier to learn foreign languages.
