Dreaming of summer picnics filled with family and fun? We’ve come up with 4 of the top picnic areas across the US.

Cumberland Islands, Georgia

Just a few hours south of Savannah, this national seashore is a picnic paradise. It’s an unspoiled place in the Deep South with over 50 miles of hiking trails (小径). Covered in Spanish moss, the trails are lined with trees and since it’s still a rural area the stars line up for a spectacular show at night and creates the perfect evening starlit picnic opportunity.

If you are looking for delicious food in Chicago, go for a taste of a 20-day, lake-front, foodie festival that happens in October each year. Grab a spot near the fountain to enjoy your picnic, appreciate the city scenery and lake views and relax with family and friends. If you are there on July 4th, be sure to plan the day to include the fireworks display at the Navy Pier.

Here, you’ll enjoy natural picnics with island views. The islands are a delightful group of islands about 20 minutes offshore from Acadia National Park. You can visit the islands by private boat or ferry (渡船) service. I need to arrive at work at 6 am, which means I have to leave my house at 5 am. Yes, it is quite difficult to wake up at 4 am. Our firm arranges for cab drivers to pick up employees from their homes before 5:30 am. But since we don’t have consistent cabs, the drivers end up having to roam around to pick up the fifteen people.

An employee comes to the office early on a regular basis. He usually gets picked up first by the drivers. Since he usually travels at the same time, he happens to know the addresses of most of the employees. So he ends up helping the drivers pick up the rest employees. He patiently directs the cab drivers while also calling each employee to inform them the cab is a few minutes away from their residence.

Yesterday, I was wondering how this person can do this every day, without complaint, even though it’s neither part of his job, nor giving him a ny added advantage. I thought: “This is a person who definitely deserves a thank-you note.” So I just wrote a card to him yesterday evening, telling him that lie has a great attitude and that all the employees really appreciate his act of service. Then, I put the note in an envelope, along with some chocolates.

Today, when I was supposed to hand my envelope to him, I felt a rush of fear and confusion pass over me. Maybe it was because I had never spoken to him or I was uncertain about how he would react—whether he would doubt my intention. However, when he was getting out of the cab, I thought: “I know my intention is good, and that’s the reason why I should give it to him. What he thinks of it is his own decision. I should

do what I feel is right.” So, with my heart beating fast, I handed the envelope to him. And now, I feel happy! Maybe I made someone’s day today.

Many high school students consider a college education useless. Therefore, they choose not to go to college. If you’re one of them, think again. Here are some reasons why you should go to college and receive a good education there.

Schools and universities are the first sources of knowledge. We take that knowledge later on to build our careers after graduation. More knowledge will be gained after you start working, but without an education, that job will not be within easy reach. Knowledge leads to knowledge.

While limited within the walls of the educational institutions, we openly explore other cultures of the world. We come to know that ours is not the only culture. Other cultures have valuable insights to share, enriching our own. Education also makes us want to travel and interact with various cultures, broadening our horizons.

When there’s a downturn (衰退) in the economy, those who attended college will be more likely to find a new job than those who only finished grade school and have a limited skills set. The more education you have, the more chances you will get to improve the quality of your life as you have a better job and earn

a higher salary.

When you’re skillful and knowledgeable, you get to “rub knees” with people of similar backgrounds and tastes. It means a good education leads to excellent networking. Good networking can benefit you a lot in your later life.

A good education makes you a more interesting person. You can talk about ideas and events instead of just other people and what’s on sale in stores. An educated person doesn’t gossip, having a preference to discuss ideas and listen to what other people have to say.

30. By giving the example of a downturn in the economy, what does the author want to show?

B. A good education sometimes means nothing.

C. A good education means you will not lose your job.

D. A good education allows you to keep a high quality of life.

31. What is the text mainly about?

A. Sources of knowledge.

B. Benefits of attending college.

C. The disadvantages of not being educated.

D. The reason why some people think college useless.

When parents discover their child has lied to them for the first time, it can often come as a shock to find their little treasure is capable of such tricking. But new research has suggested many parents may not

even notice many of the lies their children tell them.

Psychologists have discovered that most parents are over-confident in their child’s honesty and this may break their ability to spot a lie.

The findings may help to explain why some parents seem to be willing to let their children get away with almost anything. They say that mothers and fathers suffer from a “truth bias” with their own youngsters but when faced with lies from other people’s children, they have less difficulty telling if a statement is true or not.

Dr. Ange la Evans, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario, Canada, said: “The close relationship that parents share with their own children may be related to their lives. Parents’ truth bias may reflect a rigid and perhaps biased idea of their own children based on previous experiences. This view may result in parents being less suspicious of their children and allowing for their children to be able to successfully cheat them.”

Most children are thought to start lying as early as two years old but start telling more believable lies at around the age of four years old. Learning how to lie is widely considered to be a key part of the social development in children. But many parents are shocked when their children start lying to them.

In their study, Dr. Evans and her colleagues filmed 118 children as they performed a test. Then videos of those children were shown to 152 parents of children aged 8 to 16 years old, 80 of whom had children who had taken part in the test. The researchers found that the parents were less able to spot lies told by their own children. However, they were better at finding truths than parents whose children hadn’t taken part in the test.

32. Why do parents have difficulty finding their children’s lies?

A. Parents are too trusting of their children.

B. Children know how to earn their parents’ trust.

C. Parents may establish no close relationship with children.

D. Children don’t communicate with parents about everything.

33. What does the underlined word “suspicious” in Paragraph 4 mean?

A. Concerned.

B. Skeptical.

C. Realistic.

D. Sure.

34. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A. Children aged 8 to 16 years old tend to lie more.

B. Parents having no child enjoy an advantage in telling lies.

C. 80 percent of children may lie to their parents in daily life.

D. Parents are better at telling truths rather than lies from their children.

35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

A. Should children tell lies to their parents?

B. Why parents fail to tell their children’s lies?

C. Can parents tell whether their children are lying or not?

D. What should parents do when their children lie to them?

People have always wanted to know what the future will look like. Then, how can we? 36 The world has changed a lot in the last 150 years, but we humans are driven by the same basic needs as we were 150 years ago, such as food, sleep, the feeling of being appreciated and loved. 37 No. In addition, generally speaking, the inventions for the last 150 years have been a human effort for freedom and communication, to be able to get in control of the time and world. Since there is still much to do in this area, this will be the focus at least for the next 150 years.

But why do we need to predict the future? Predicting the future is important for two reasons: First, we need to start to think about what kind of future we would like for ourselves and to pass on to the next generation. 38

How about the virtual worlds? It might be in the future to experience the sand between your toes, and hear the waves, just lying in your bed at home. 39 So, even if a great invention is there for an affordable price, it’ll never take the place of the common experience if it i s not real.

40 What we’ll see in the next 50 years is the transition (过渡) from an oil-dependent society to a new society. Here there’ll be new medicine, continued exploration of space, challenges in the climate change, and new inventions that make life a little easier.

A. So what will the future look like then?

B. Will this change in the next 150 years?

C. Predicting the future can help us in many ways.

D. However, you’ll never get the feeling of being there.

E. Well, to understand the future, you must know the past.

F. However, no matter how real the experience will feel, it doesn’t happen for real.

G. Then we need to know what decisions we need to make today that will give the best result in the future.

There is an increasing concern about the education of children in the society, especial in families. As we all know, the success of education due to the cooperation of three factors: family, society and school. To be honest, spoiling children are everywhere whether in cities or in the countryside. As the parents in a family, they will keep influencing students speech, behavior and thinking manners. As a child, their eyes always observe, their ears always listen, or their minds always process the message they absorb. If you see us patiently provide a happy home atmosphere for family members, they would imitate that attitude for the

Text 10

The findings of a new study by the University of Southern California indicate that whether it is around

the dinner table or in front of the television, but members of U.S. families are spending less time with each other.

As family time eventually decreases, there is a rise in the use of Internet and the number of social networking sites, although a new study did not say that those sites are to blame for. The Annenberg Center for the Digital Future at the University of Southern California revealed that 28 percent of those who took part in the survey reported that they have been spending less time with members of their families. That figure has nearly tripled since 2006, when 11 percent of families had indicated to be spending less time with household members. However, these individuals did not report spending less time with their friends. In the beginning of the 21st century, in 2000, people spent about 26 hours every month with their families. By 2008, the number dropped to just 18 hours.

In addition, the study found that a high percentage of Internet users reported being ignored sometimes or often because another member of the family spent too much time looking through the web (44 percent reporting). And even higher percentage (50 percent) said that they were ignored because other members spent too much time watching television.
