What separates me from everyone else? The difference is not what clothes I wear or the music I listen too, but what I feel inside.

Ever since I was young, I have loved professional wrestling. I woke up every Saturday to watch my favorite "Superstars." As I grew older, I got a lot of flak for watching this "fake" sport. My peers would laugh at me for following what was called a "man's soap opera." So, I put my love for wrestling on the shelf. Like everyone else, I wanted to be associated with the cool clique.

I yearned to be invited to the parties of the in-crowd and hang out with the popular kids. I became pretty successful. Although my Friday evenings were busy with parties, I would still wake up early Saturdays to watch wrestling. It wasn't until freshman year that I realized I wasn't being myself.

That year, I tried many new things and activities and made new friends. In my town, football was the sport, so I decided to play football, thinking it might give me a head start in popularity. The team started with 48 athletes. At the end, there were 14 of us left. I stuck it out not because I liked it, but because I am not a quitter. That long season taught me a lesson: I wasn't a football player. More importantly, it taught me to be myself.

After that season, I went back to being a wrestling fan. I watched it religiously, no matter

what insults were thrown my way. I came across a quote: "Don't Dream It, Be It." When I read this, my friend Dan had the same idea I had.

"What if we build a wrestling ring?" we asked. We acquired the necessary wood and equipment for its construction. The following weekend, we met at his house. We saw our dream in a pile in his backyard. We worked from dawn to dusk to build our great establishment. By Sunday night, our mission was complete. Our hard work (combined with a little creativity) had paid off. We had a real ring. We decided to hold an "event." We practiced for hours, trying to improve every aspect of our wrestling ability. The date was May 24th. Our show had a start time of 9: 00 p.m. To our surprise, about one hundred family, friends and fans showed up to support us. It was the most important night of my life and a complete success. Since that time, we have held five shows with as many as two hundred and fifty people turning out. We continue to live this dream. We accomplished what we set out to do. We are now well known throughout school. When I walk down the halls, I am respected by my peers. Some are the same peers who ridiculed me for watching wrestling when I was younger. When they approach me, they often say, "Good match, Chris." I humbly say, "Thank you," knowing I did something I believed in.

As my senior year winds down, I'll remember all of my high school memories. But what will stick out most is the memory that I did something I loved, despite what everyone said or thought.

I accomplished my goal ... I lived my dream.

C(摘自温州中学月考)

Going to school means learning new skills and facts in such subjects as reading, math, science, history, art or music. Teachers teach and students learn, and many scientists are interested in finding ways to improve both the teaching and learning processes.

Some researchers, such as Sian Beilock and Susan Levine, are trying to learn about learning. Beilock and Levine are psychologists at the University of Chicago. Psychologists study the ways people think and be have, and these researchers want to know how a person’s thoughts and behavior are related.

In a new study about the way kids learn math in elementary school, Beilock and Levine found a surprising relationship between what female teachers think and what female students learn: If a female teacher is uncomfortable with her own math skills, then her female students are more likely to believe that boys are better than girls at math.

“If these girls keep getting math-anxious female teachers in later grades, it may create a snowball effect on their math achievement,” Levine told Science News. The study suggests that if these girls grow up believing that boys are better at math than girls are, then these girls may not do as well as they would have if they were more confident.

Just as students find certain subjects to be difficult, teachers can find certain subjects to be difficult to learn—and teach. The subject of math can be particularly difficult for everyone. Researchers use the word “anxiety” to describe such fe elings: anxiety is uneasiness or worry. (Many people, for example, have anxiety about going to the dentist because they’re worried about pain.)

The new study found that when a teacher has anxiety about math, that feeling can influence how her female students feel about math. The study involved 65 girls, 52 boys and 17 first- and

second-grade teachers in elementary schools in the Midwest. The students took math achievement tests at the beginning and end of the school year, and the researchers compared the scores.

The researchers also gave the students tests to tell whether the students believed that a math superstar had to be a boy. Then the researchers turned to the teachers: To find out which teachers were anxious about math, the researchers asked the teachers how they felt at times when they came across math, such as when reading a sales receipt. A teacher who got nervous looking at the numbers on a sales receipt, for example, was probably anxious about math.

Boys, on average, were unaffected by a teacher’s anxiety. On average, girls with math-anxious teachers scored lower on the end-of-the-year math tests than other girls in the study did. Plus, on the test showing whether someone thought a math superstar had to be a boy, 20 girls showed feeling that boys would be better at math—and all of these girls had been taught by female teachers who had math anxiety.

According to surveys done before this one, college students who want to become elementary school teachers have the highest levels of anxiety about math. Plus, nine of every 10 elementary teachers are women, Levine said.

This study was small, and it’s often difficult to see large patterns in small studies, David Geary told Science News. Geary, a psychologist at the University of Missouri in Columbia, studies how children learn math. “This is an interesting study, but the results need to be interpreted as preliminary and in need of replication with a larger sample,” Geary said. That means that the results are just showing something that might be happening, but more studies should be done. If more studies find the same trend as this one, then it’s possible that a teacher’s anxiety over math really is affecting her female students.

50. Sian Beilock and Susan Levine carried out the new research in order to ______.

A. know the effects of teaching on learning

B. study students’ ways of learning math

C. prove women teachers are unfit to teach math

D. find better teaching methods for teachers

51. The underlined part in paragraph 4 most probably means that girls may ______.

A. end up learning math with anxiety from their teachers

B. study the ways their female teachers behave

C. have an influence on their math-anxious female teachers

D. gain unexpected achievement in such subjects as math

52. In the study, what were the teachers required to do?

A. Prepare two math achievement tests for the students.

B. Tell their feelings about math problems.

C. Answer whether a math superstar had to be a boy.

D. Compare the students’ scores after the math tests.

53. What is the finding of the new study?

A. No male students were affected by their teachers’ anxiety.

B. Almost all the girls got lower scores in the tests than the boys.

C. About 30% of the girls thought boys are better at math than girls.

D. Girls with math-anxious teachers all failed in the math tests.

54. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?

A. 117 students and teachers took part in the new study.

B. The researchers felt surprised at the findings of their study.

C. Beilock and Levine are interested in teaching math.

D. Men teachers are better at teaching math than women teachers.

H alf of the world’s population is affected by Asian monsoons(季风), but monsoons are difficult to predict. American researchers have put together a 700-year record of the rainy seasons, which is expected to provide guidance for experts making weather predictions.

Every year, moist (潮湿的)air masses, known as monsoon, produce large amounts of rainfall in India, East Asia, Northern Australia and East Africa. All this wet air is pulled in by a high pressure area over the Indian Ocean and a low pressure area to the south.

According to Edward Cook , a weather expert at Columbia University in New York., the complex nature of the climate systems across Asia makes monsoons hard to predict. In addition, climate records for the area are too recent and not detailed enough to be of much use. Therefore, he and a team of researchers spent more than fifteen years traveling across Asia, looking for trees old enough to provide long-term records. They measured the rings, or circles, inside thousands of ancient trees in more than 300 places.

Rainfall has a direct link to the growth and width of rings on some kinds of trees. The researchers developed a document they are calling a Monsoon Asia Drought Atlas. It shows the effect of monsoons over seven centuries, beginning in the 1300s.

Professor Cook says the tree-ring records show periods of wet and dry weather. “If the monsoon basically fails or is a very weak one, the trees affected by monsoons at that location might put on a very narrow ring. But if the monsoon is very strong, the trees affected by that monsoon might put on a wide ring for that year. So, the wide and narrow ring widths of the chronology that we developed in Asia provide us with a measure of monsoon variability.” With all this information, researchers say they can begin to improve computer climate models for predicting the behavior of monsoons.

“There has been widespread famine and starvation and human dying in the past in large droughts. And on the other hand, if the monsoon is particularly heavy, it can cause extensive flooding.” said Eugene Wahl, a scientist with America’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. “So, to get a sense of what the regional moisture patterns have been, dryness and wetness over such a long period of time in great detail, I would call it a kind of victory for climate science.”

55.What’sthe passage mainly about?

A. The effects of Asian monsoons.

C. The achievements of Edward cook.

D. A breakthrough in monsoon prediction.

56. It is difficult for experts to predict Asian monsoons because_________

A. Long and details climate records can offer useful information for monsoon research.

B. The Monsoon Asia Drought Atlas has a monsoon record for about 1,300 years.

C. The trees affected by monsoon grow fast if the monsoon is weak.

D. The rainfall might be low although the monsoon is strong in monsoon-affected areas.

WL: It is a school of hip hop, which is the way I like to think of it. It combines Chinese elements and sounds. I started it off in my last album called Shangrila. And this album combines the music of ethnic minorities, in China, in Tibet, and in Mongolia. It’s beautiful and original to Chinese culture. And this new album called Heroes of Earth combines Opera and Quen-chu, which are thousand-year-old traditions also unique to Chinese culture. Very unique instruments, costumes, singing styles. I don’t think anyone has ever done this before in the hip hop world.

62. ___________________

WL: Um, just the large quantity of work that I have to come up with. I produce for other artists and compose for them as well. And there are a lot of changes in music going on right now in Asia. And it’s really exciting so I decided that I’m going to need a studio in New York. I’m going to need

a studio in Taipei. And maybe the rest I can get by with just my laptop.

63. ___________________

WL: Well, I started doing musical theatre. And I loved it so much from the age of 13, you know. Actually in 2000, I did my first movie and ever since then I’ve been enjoying doing movies. I don’t think I’m much of an actor. But I just love being surrounded by creative people and a lot of times doing music is a lonely struggle, especially composing, and arranging, producing my own albums. Acting, e very day you get called and you’re surrounded by other actors and creative people.

64. ___________________

WL: The first time I won, like you just said, when I was 22, it meant a lot to me. It was like…I didn’t know I could make this happen. I didn’t know I could get this kind of recognition. So back then, it was huge increase of confidence. And I don’t want to say vanity(虚荣心), but confidence.

I think every artist needs confidence.

65. ___________________

WL: Well, it can be a real pain in the neck. You know, I feel lucky that I can go back to New York and not be recognized and not be followed. At times it can be really, really annoying. Today many people own a cell phone that has a camera on it… and a blog. In the entertainment news, there’s a recent trend of journalists or media just going on to the Internet and saying “Oh, so and so saw so and so.” when they see a blog. You know, it’s completely irresponsible but in the blog what he says can become the title of the newspaper article.

High school for me is a door to the wider world. I used to being a dumb English learner. Therefore, I became a brave English speaker after I attended a Christmas party, that was organized by my foreign teacher Edward. At the party, Edward encouraged me to talk Chinese traditions during the Spring Festival and he shared with me the British custom about Christmas. It was the first time that I have ever talked with a foreigner for so long. The party was fun, filling with games and talks, but most significant I realized that my oral English was not so bad. Recently, a victory in an English speaking competition even won him the opportunity of a trip abroad.

2018年浙江省杭州高中高考英语最后一卷-教师用卷

2018年浙江省杭州高中高考英语最后一卷 副标题 一、阅读理解(本大题共10小题,共25.0分) A One day your pocket might power your smart phone.Soon you may never have to worry about your smart phone running out of juice.Your clothing will simply power it back up for you. That's the word from scientists at China's Chongqing and Jinan Universities in a study just published in the journal ACS Nano. Researchers have been hard at work during the last few years trying to create wearable energy,or clothes that can charge things. The assumption is simple.People today rely heavily upon devices such as smart phones and tablets. And they're looking for ways to recharge these devices on the go.So if you could design clothing fabric that could make use of solar power -one of the most widely available and inexhaustible renewable energy sources - you'd be able to charge your various devices with ease. Scientists have had some past success creating energy-harvesting fibers. But there was always one problem when they tried to fashion these threads into self-powered smart clothes:The fibers they designed got damaged during the clothing manufacturing process, namely during the weaving and cutting. The Chongqing and Jinan University scientists say they've solved this problem because the energy-collecting and energy-storing threads they created are highly flexible - each individual thread is easily bendable, and not simply the fabric as a whole. The team's sample textile can be fully charged to 1.2 volts in 17 seconds by exposure to sunlight - enough voltage that your future smart T or smart dress might be able to power small electronics. It's durable, too;their research showed there was no descent in the fabric after 60 days. But don't worry that this means the fabric is similar to rough cloth. The scientists note their textile can be fashioned into numerous different patterns, and tailored into any designed shape, without affecting performance. 1.What does the underlined phrase "running out of juice" in paragraph 1mean?______ A. Being lacking in energy. B. Wanting to have some juice. C. Being picked out of a drink. D. Having some water running out. 2.Why could smart dress charge a phone?______ A. A solar cell is attached to the dress. B. The fabric of the textile contains current. C. The fabric of the textile is easily bendable. D. The fabric of the textile could collect and store the solar energy. 3.What is the scientists' attitude towards the scientific technology?______ A. Optimistic. B. Pessimistic. C. Neutral. D. Doubtful. 【答案】 【小题1】A 【小题2】D 【小题3】A 第1页,共13页
