A Letter Advocating Saving Water
I am writing to inform all of my fellow students to save water in daily life. Our country is not rich in water resources，and the possession of water resources per person in China is below the world average. In some regions of our country water is so scarce that it is hard for the people and animals to get enough water to drink. What makes it worse，the pollution of water resources by the industries is getting more serious.
Of course，our government has taken many measures to deal with this problem，and the good effect has been seen to some degree. However，that is not enough because saving water needs the participation of every one. As college students, we have a good reason to do a better job in saving water. Here are some suggestions, which we wish all of you to follow. First of all，we hope you bear saving water in mind when using water in your daily life，for example, do not let water running without restraint when you wash dishes,clothes or have a bath. Secondly，please do not stand by when seeing the phenomenon of wasting water,and do something to combat it. Thirdly，help people to form the good habit of using water economically by giving wide publicity to saving water.
With the effort of everybody, we firmly believe that the stern situation of water resources in our country will bealleviated gradually.

A Notice of English Speech Contest
An English speech contest sponsored by the University English Club will be held on May 4th at the university auditorium to memorize the 91st anniversary of the May 4th Movement. Any of the full-time students in this university is entitled to take part in the speech.
The student interested in the activity is required to submit a draft of his/her speech before April 30th to the Speech Organizing Committee Office at Room 1512 of the No. 2 Students Dormitory. You are free to choose your topic and the teachers of the English Department will offer their help to polish your drafts. The students whose drafts are chosen by the Speech Organizing Committee will become the candidates. The winner will be awarded prizes by the President of the University himself and will be recommended to take part in the English speech contest among universities in the district of Beijing.

This is to announce that the university will organize a "Teach in the West" program. This program applies to all the undergraduate students on campus. The volunteers will teach at junior middle schools for a year in the west area, and the subjects are Chinese, English, Math, Physics and Chemistry. The specific locations of the middle schools are upon further notice.
Each year, many students from other universities volunteer themselves to work in the poverty-stricken areas of the west to try to improve the education level there. We should also take the lead in response to the appeal for offering aid to children in poor areas. The children need us. Let us hold out our helping hands to them and do whatever we can to help them.

Exciting news! The Student Union,cooperating with the English Club on the campus, is gong to organize an English Week in the last week of October.
The activitiess include English speech contest, English imitation show and English song competition. Please prepare costumes and stage properties on your own if you would like to be a participant in the English imitation show. In the English song competiotion, you can choose whichever style of English songs and we’ll provide accompanied music for you if only you report the song in advance.
If you are interested in the activities and want to take part in any of them, please come to the Student Union to sign up before September 20th.The place for the activities and some other relevant information will be announced later.
