INTERPRETATION TEST 2005.11

Part A

Directions:In this part of the test, you will hear 2 passages in English. After you have heard each sentence or paragraph, interpret it into Chinese. Start interpreting at the signal…and stop it at the signal…You may tak e notes while you are listening. Remember you will hear the passages only once. Now let us begin Part A with the first passage.

Passage 1:

Ladies and Gentlemen: I have not come to China to hold forth on what divides us, but to build on what binds us. I have not come to dwell on a closed-door past, but to urge that Americans and Chinese look to the beautiful future.//

We must always be realistic about our relationship, frankly acknowledging the fundamental differences in ideology between our two societies. Let us not be dominated by these differences.//

If we were to ask citizens all over this world what they desire most for their children, and for their children’s children, their answer, in whatever language, would likely be the same: We want peace, freedom, and a better life.//

Like China, our people see the future in the eyes of our children. And like China, we respect our elders. To be as good as our fathers and mothers, we must be better.

Passage 2:

What is time? Is it a thing to be saved or spent or wasted, like money? Or is it something we have no control over, like the weather? Or is it something too valuable to lose, like one’s life?//

Benjamin Franklin was right when he expressed this view: “Do you love life? Then do not waste time, for that is the stuff life is made of.” We Americans see time as an extremely valuable resource.//

We Americans also believe that time is a limited resource, and therefore we try to conserve and manage it. We often attend seminars or read books on time management, hoping that we will organize our time better.//

Professionals carry around pocket planners – some in electronic form – to keep track of appointments and deadlines. All in all, we do all we can to squeeze more life out of our time.

Part B

Directions:In this part of the test, you will hear 2 passages in Chinese. After you have each sentence or paragraph, interpret it into English. Start interpreting at the signal…and stop it at the signal…You may take notes while you are listening. Remember you will hear the passages only once. Now, let us begin Part B with the first passage.

Passage 1

“One world, one dream” reflects our desire / aspiration to host a great Olympic Games

in Beijing, a city that boasts both ancient culture and modern charm.//

The three themes of our bid are: Green Olympics, Hi-tech Olympics and the People’s Olympics. Our goal is to spread the Olympic Ideals among our people, especially young people.//

We will work with the International Olympic Committee, the National Olympic Committees of different countries, as well as other international sports organizations to establish an open and effective working relationship.//

Confucius, an ancient Chinese sage, said, “Isn’t it a great pleasure to have friends coming from afar!” We are looking forward to receiving all guests from every corner of the world

in Beijing in the year 2008.

Passage 2:

How should a country’s human rights conditions be determined? In my opinion, they should be determined based on whether or not the general public of the country can enjoy political, economic, and educational and subsistence rights.//

As China is a developing country, its human rights situation has a two-fold meaning: Firstly, our human rights conditions are developing and improving; and secondly, as they are still in the process of development, some problems unavoidably exist / arise.//

An overseas friend told me that after he visited Beijing he discovered that people there would dare say anything: They talked about the government’s policies, and praised or criticized them.//

Therefore, I’d say that anyone who knows about Chinese history believes t hat the current human rights situation inChina is the best in history.

INTERPRETATION TEST07

Part A

Directions:In this part of the test, you will hear 2 passages in English. After you have heard each paragraph, interpret it into Chinese. Start interpreting at he signal and stop it at the signal. You may take notes while you are listening. Remember you will hear the passages only once.

Now let us begin Part A with the first passage.

Passage 1:

We’re aware of an emergence of a new and exciti ng mode of information economy driven by netoreded technology. What I want to say is that the Internet is transforming business operation patterns and contributing to what is called the new information economy. An immediate consequence of this profound change is the simplification of business transaction. Thanks to the advanced technology something very important is happening to the US economy. We are able to grow faster without triggering inflation than we thought possible..//

Of course, there’s the down s ide. The new economy does not mean we will never have another recession. It does not mean stock prices will stay at their lofty levels or that there will never be another bear market. Nobody is promising you a rose garden. I anticipate uncertainty accompanying the emergence of the new information economy. But because of what I view as higher productivity, I see the possibility of sustained economic growth without the threat of inflation, more jobs and higher wages.

Passage 2:

This year marks very special milestone for our company. After the grand opening of our joint venture in China last year, we established as of the beginning of this year our own sales, marketing, after-sales s ervices and distribution organization in China. What’s more, we are

expanding our engineering group and superior lifetime combined with competitive prices are still the most important trends of power tools.//

I am confident of our strategic plans in China for 2006 and onward. These plans will enable us to stay closer to the Chinese market, identify the market needs faster, and develop more customized products and services, all at a very competitive price. We expect the Chinese market for power tools to grow at a pace of 8% in the coming years, and we expect to participate actively in this development by enhancing local R&D and creating additional jobs.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Mr. President put forward explicitly the common propositions of China and U.S. on how to bulid a new international political and economic order, and drew a blueprint for the future cooperation between China and US, I am convinced that with the concerted efforts of all the participants, this Conference will surely be a complete success and attain the set goals on an equal footing, enhancing mutual understanding, broadening common ground, deepening friendship and promoting cooperation.//

As an ancient Chinese saying goes, “Distance tests the endurance of a horse and time reveals the heart of a person”, Ber the past five decades and more, Sino_US co-operation in the political, economic, cultural and other fields has developed steadily and the friendship between the Chinese and American peoples has grown deeper and deeper with each passing day in spite of the vicissitudes in the international arena. China and US will stand together through thick and thin, enhance co-operation and seek common development. Together, we will surely make greater contribution to the lofty cause of world peace and development.

Passage 2:

The Chinese Government has always attached great importance to environmental protection. It has identified environmental protection as one of the State policies in the 1980s. It identified sustainable development as a national strategy in early 1990s. In the new century, the Chinese Government has put forward to adhere to the people-centered principle, fulfill the scientific development approach, and integrate the coordinated development of the economy, society and environment.//

The environment should be protected in the process of development and active esplorations have been conducted: first, strengthening envoronmental legislation. China have established a legal system composed of these environmental laws and regulations. Second, enhancing environmental education and encouraging public supervision and participation. With these measures, the worsning trend of the pollution has been under preliminary control in the context of rapid economic growth in China.

Start interpreting at the signal…and stop it at the signal…You may take notes while you are listening. Remember you will hear the passages only once. Now let us begin Part A with the first passage.

Passage 1 is about misleading advertisements.

Passage 1:

Advertising affects all of us throughout our lives. Young girls are particularly vulnerable, because they are new and inexperienced consumers and are the prime targets of many advertisements.//

No politician or educator is more pervasive or persuasive than advertising. It teaches us to value material things above all else, to feel that happiness can be bought, that products can meet our deepest human needs.//

Ironically, the heavily advertised products, such as cosmetics and weight-reduction drinks, are even harmful to physical attractiveness. There is little emphasis in the advertisement on nutrition and physical exercise.//

Misleading advertisements lead people to believe that the value of a person, especially the value of a young woman, depends upon the products they use. The right perfume or beer can provide a symbol of femininity or of masculinity.

Passage 2 is part of a speech at a university awarding ceremony.

Passage 2:

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our annual University Awards. I am extremely delighted that we are once again celebrating the achievements of our colleagues.// Our annual University Awards recognize and honor the best staffs and faculty members in our community, who have made great contributions to the university and our country this year.// Some of them have excelled in educating students. (1) New Zealand is a South Pacific country located midway between the Equator and the South Pole, with a land of 268,105 square kilometers and a population of over three million. 2) When the washing cycle is over, the machine fries the plates and glasses with its own heart, and indeed they can be left inside until they are needed for the next meal.

(4) Questions 16-20 We are moving inexorably into the age of automation. Our aim is not to devise a mechanism which can perform a thousand different actions of any individual man but, on the contrary, one which could by a single action replace a thousand men. Industrial automation has moved along three lines. First there is the conveyor belt system of continuous production whereby separate operations are linked into a single sequence. The goods produced by this well-established method are untouched by the worker, and the machine replaces both unskilled and semiskilled. Secondly, there is automation with feedback control of the quality of the product: here mechanisms are built into the system which can compare the output with a norm, that is, the actual product with what it is supposed to be, and then correct any shortcomings. The entire cycle of operations dispenses with human control except in so far as monitors are concerned. One or two examples of this type of automation will illustrate its immense possibilities. There is a factory in the U.S.A. which makes 1,000 million electric light bulbs a year, and the factory employs three hundred people. If the preautomation techniques were to be employed, the labour force required would leap to 25,000. A motor manufacturing company with 45,000 spare parts regulates their entire supply entirely by computer. Computers can be entrusted with most of the supervision of industrial installations, such as chemical plants or oil refineries. Thirdly, there is computer automation, for banks, accounting departments, insurance companies and the like. Here the essential features are the recording, storing, sorting and retrieval of information. The principal merit of modern computing machines is the achievement of their

Newsweek Why We Must Fire Bad Teachers The relative decline of American education at the elementary- and high-school levels has long been a national embarrassment as well as a threat to the nation’s future. Once upon a time, American students tested better than any other students in the world. Now, ranked against European schoolchildren, America does about as well as Lithuania, behind at least 10 other nations. For much of this time—roughly the last half century—professional educators believed that if they could only find the right pedagogy, the right method of instruction, all would be well. They tried New Math, open classrooms, Whole Language—but nothing seemed to achieve significant or lasting improvements. Yet in recent years researchers have discovered something that may seem obvious, but for many reasons was overlooked or denied. What really makes a difference, what matters more than the class size or the textbook, the teaching method or the technology, or even the curriculum, is the quality of the teacher. Much of the ability to teach is innate—an ability to inspire young minds as well as control unruly classrooms that some people instinctively possess (and some people definitely do not). Teaching can be taught, to some degree, but not the way many graduate schools of education do it, with a lot of insipid or marginally relevant theorizing and pedagogy. In any case the research shows that within about five years, you can generally tell who is a good teacher and who is not.

When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960′s, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and Polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions. Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it we re the words: “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you. Smoking does great harm to human and its gravity should not be underestimated. Smoking pollutes air, damages health, and increases the incidence of lung cancer. To arouse the awareness about the prevalence of tobacco in all the countries and to prevent smoking-induced diseases and deaths, the WHO (World Health Organization) has defined May 31st in every year as World No-Tobacco Day. The tobacco addicts say that smoking is impossible to quit because they could do without meals in a day but would feel tortured without tobacco in two hours. However, when one realizes that smoking is harmful in many ways but beneficial in no way and that it is a curse to others as well

三级口译真题 2019上半年CATTI口译三级真题(英译汉) Last night, when I was coming into town from Pudong Airport, I crossed the beautiful Huangpu River on the Lupu Bridge. This reminded me of China’s talent in making bridges and made me think of three other important bridges. Bridge number one: 40 years ago, China started to build a “bridge to the world” by opening its economy and by kickstarting reforms that have changed the lives and prospects of hundreds of millions of people—here and beyond China. By transforming itself—through trade, hard work, and learning from others—China has also helped to transform the global economy. Progress in this country has played a significant role in boosting productivity, innovation and living standards in countries around the world. Yes, there is always more work to be done. On these bridges, you don’t want traffic jams. There is room for even greater openness in China’s domestic market, which can help

Part I Listen to the following dialogue and interpret it as required. After you hear a sentence or a short passage in Chinese, interpret it into English by speaking to the microphone. And after you hear an English sentence or short passage, interpret it into Chinese. You will hear the dialogue only once. Smith: Earth Day was started in 1970. It was set to help raise the general public’s environmental awareness. For one thing, it provides a special day to remind people to take care of the Earth. It also gives special interest and environmental groups an opportunity to motivate their members to take action in their communities. Smith: That is certainly true. By the year 2005, there will be 7 billion people on the planet. I personally think that recycling is the answer. Paper, metal, rubber, oil, and many other materials are going to have to be recycled on a much greater scale. Everyone will have to be involved. Perhaps even special legislation will be required. It is true that we are losing millions of hectares every year to housing and roads. But there is still a lot of undeveloped land that could be used for both farming and housing. And science and technology is helping us to get more out of the land that is used for farming. Smith: I will probably attend our city’s annual “Earth Day” celebrations and then help pick up the mountain of garbage left over. Part II Interpret the following passage from English to Chinese. On August 31, 1997, Lady Diana Spencer, former wife of Charles, Prince of Wales, was killed with her companion Dodi Fayed in a car accident in Paris. Tests conducted by French police indicated that the driver, who also died in the crash, was intoxicated and likely caused the accident while trying to escape the paparazzi photographers who consistently tailed Diana during any public outing. Sixteen years earlier, nearly four billion people in 74 countries had tuned in to witness the marriage of Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, to Lady Diana, a young English schoolteacher. Married in a grand ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral in the presence of 2,650 guests, the couple’s romance was for the moment the envy of the world. However, before long the fairy-tale couple grew apart, an experience that was particularly painful under the ubiquitous eyes of the world’s tabloid media. In August 1996, two months after Queen Elizabeth II urged the couple to divorce, the prince and princess reached a final agreement. In exchange for a generous settlement, and the right to retain her apartments at Kensington Palace and her title of princess, Diana agreed to relinquish the title of “Her Royal Highness” and any future claims to the British throne. In the year between the divorce and her fatal car accident, the popular princess seemed well on her way of achieving her dream of becoming “a queen in people’s hearts.”
