Beldon and Canfield are two seashore towns, not far apart. Both towns have many hotels, and in summer the hotels are full of holiday-makers and other tourists.

Last August there was a fire at the Seabreeze Hotel in Beldon. The next day, this news appeared on page two of the town's newspaper—The Beldon Post:

FIRE AT SEABREEZE

Late last night firemen hurried to the Seabreeze Hotel and quickly put out a small fire in a bedroom. The hotel manager said that a cigarette started the fire. We say again to all our visitors: “Please don't smoke cigarettes in bed.”This was B eldon's first hotel fire for five years.

The Canfield Times gave the news in these words on page one:

ANOTHER BELDON HOTEL CATCHES FIRE

Last night Beldon firemen arrived just too late to save clothing, bedclothes and some furniture at the Seabreeze Hotel. An angry holiday-maker said,“An electric lamp probably started

the fire. The bedroom lamps are very old at some of these hotels. When I put my bedside light on, I heard a funny noise from the lamp.”We are glad to tell our readers that this sort of adventur e does not happen in Canfield.

What are the facts, then? It is never easy to find out the exact truth about an accident. There was a fire at the Seabreeze Hotel last August; that is one fact. Do we know anything else? Yes, we know that firemen went to the hotel.

Now what do you think of the rest of the“news”?

School Report went international when the BBC News project's first global radio bulletin was made at Randfontein High School near Johannesburg in South Africa.

Students from the school were joined by pupils from two other schools—Parktown High School for Girls and Impala Crescent Primary School—and went live at 14:00 local time on 3 February 2009. BBC Producers Ros Smith and Kate Riley were invited by the Commonwealth of Learning to work with the schools.

After deciding on their news items, the students gathered vox_pops from fellow students and their teachers.

Tiffany said,“We had a chance to talk to other kids from other schools. This was great

because Randfontein is situated in the sticks, away from civ ilisation.” Nomakhosi added, “Interviewing our teachers and classmates was interesting and I felt important while doing this.”

Chene commented, “My voice sounded like a whole new person. It takes some time getting used to hearing your own voice.”

Pupils, known as learners in South Africa, then worked with School Report producer Ros Smith to edit their clips while others started script-writing(写广播稿).

With the 1 400 deadline fast approaching, and the audio edited, the new School Reporters recorded their scripts so they could be added to the bulletin.

Ros Smith was really impressed with the students' work. She said, “The stories they chose were an excellent mix. The final bulletin sounds really good, and they finished with 10 minutes to spare before the deadlin e.”

On 26 March students from the three schools will take part in the School Report News Day with support from the Open Learning Systems Education Trust, and it was a big success.

Even if you don’t know the more complex aspects of index funds, everyone generally knows what it means to be good with money. Spend less than your earn, save for the future, stay out of debt. 36 In fact, when we are talking about money management, we are actually talking about our psychological relationship with money. Fundamentally, our financial problems come from unmet needs. In the case of compulsive overspending, the problem is almost never that a person lacks self-control. 37 If you overspend on clothing, you don’t actually believe you need 1,000 items in your closet. More likely, you are uncomfortable with your body or status. Clothing helped you feel good about yourself in the past. 38 If overspending on restaurants, you are not so lazy that you can’t be bothered to cook a single meal. Rather, you are exhausted from doing things you don’t want to do. You need to give yourself energy in the form of a food high, one that will temporarily mask your unhappiness. The path to true financial health is not to reduce your life to a tight budget, 39 Instead of letting yourself be controlled by uncomfortable impulses, financial health is all about creating a budget that allows you to do what you truly desire in life. If your problem is low self-worth, invest strategically in things that will make you feel worthy. Maybe it’s a few amazing pieces of clothing that are tailored well and last long. Maybe it’s a few sessions of therapy. If your problem is burnout, invest in rest and relaxation. 40 When something shifts within you, something shifts around you. Not the other way around. A.Now, you think you are always one dress away from feeling at peace in your own skin. B.Consider reducing your working hours, or setting aside money for a personal trip. C.However, it’s easier to say than to do. D.but to turn to financial consultants for advice on how to manage your bank account. E.Rather, he usually has an unmet basic need which he is addressing through overspending. F.Money principles are simple; it’s human psychology that’s complex. G.but to take an honest look at your needs and meet them with long-term solutions.

I have been in the teaching profession for more than thirty years, and one of the best teachers I have ever known is Mr__Rowe. I was lucky enough to teach fourth grade together with him. Mr. Rowe had endless patience and understanding and I learned so much from watching him. He could perform miracles, like the one he performed with Steven, one of the unhappiest kids I had ever seen. Steven couldn’t stand school. He didn’t like being picked last for kickball. He didn’t like the kids who raised their hands and knew all the answers, and most importantly, he didn’t like himself. The first day he walked into Mr. Rowe’s classroom, he ignored the other students, looking angry and annoyed, and slid into his chair, knocking a couple of textbooks onto the floor. Mr. Rowe walked over to him and touched Steven’s shoulder, but Steven pulled away. Nevertheless, Mr. Rowe welcomed him: "Hi, Steven. I’m happy you are in my class. We are gonna have a great year." Steven looked around the room as if Mr. Rowe must be mistaken. No teacher in his right mind would want Steven to be part of his classroom. So, while Mr. Rowe seemed cheerful and relaxed that day of school, it seemed like Steven was angry and confused. That day after classes, Mr. Rowe chose Steven to pitch(投球) the kickball at recess. "Hey, Steven," Mr. Rowe commented, "You are good at pitching. Let me show you my secret trick." Mr. Rowe taught Steven one of the tricks that not a single kid could perform. Steven learned fast and did quite well! Everyone cheered for him! After the kickball, Steven sat as close to Mr. Rowe in classes as he could. When a question was asked, Steven lit up; when he knew the answer, he raised his hand; when he answered the question, his voice shook. However, he got the answer right! He said, with Mr. Rowe, his days of the fourth grade promised wonderful. That is not to say that every day went smoothly, but it was obvious that Steven grew to love Mr. Rowe more and more with each passing day. Paragraph 1: Time passed quickly that year, and before we all knew it, it was the last day of school. ___________________________________________________________________________ _____ Paragraph 2: Many years later, Mr. Rowe and I were surprised when a handsome young man walked into our classroom, dressed in the army uniform. ___________________________________________________________________________ _____ 【答案解析】
