Besides avoiding foodstuff which could potentially produce more free radicals ,eating foodstuff which contain certain vitamins and micro -nutritious can also contribute to keep useful looking young .these vitamins help produce molecules called antioxidants ,which actually help reduce the production of free radicals .even better ,foodstuff containing antioxidant are not rare .common antioxidants, like vitamins A and E,can be found in many dark-coloured vegetables .for example ,carrots ,seaweed, spinach ,and broccoli are excellent sources of these helpful vitamins .also ,you can eat orange-coloured fruits like apricots and peaches .vitamins A and E are particularly good for helping your skin remain young -looking .these nutrients strengthen your skin and make it soft .however ,if you really want to stock up quickly on nutrients that benefit your skin ,you should eat cow's liver .one small piece of cooked cow 'sliver contains twice a much vitamin A as half a cup of cooked carrots .

More recently ,green tea has also been tentatively added to the list of youth -promoting substances .although research about green tea 's effects on our bodies is at an Early stage ,scientists certainly believe that it is good for useful .scientists ,however ,are still cautious about predicting its capability to keep useful looking youthful .but from recent experiments ,its

antioxidant properties seem to be able to repair cell damage already sustained as well as prevent damage in the future .In fact ,green tea workshop even better if you apply it directly to your skin as an ingredient in facial cream .

Level C

2010 National English Contest for College Students (Level C - Sample) Part I Listening Comprehension Section A In this section, you will hear five short conversations. Each conversation will be read only once. After each conversation, there will be a pause. During the pause, read the question and the three choices marked A, B and C, and decide which is the best answer. 1. M: The school’s English club is having a party on Saturday night. Can you come? W: I would like to, but I work at a restaurant on weekends. 2. W: Michael, did you go to the lecture on the French Revolution last night? I have never heard such an interesting history lecture before. M: Yes, wasn’t it marvelous? I’ve heard that the lecturer is a self-taught man with no university education. 3. W: So, did you have a good trip back from Bangkok, Kenny? M: Yeah, not bad. The plane left on time for a change, but the stopover in Singapore was left an hour longer than scheduled, and then we took a long time to land ... Actually, I would walk out of customs two hours ago. W: En... , I thought you were only an hour late! 4. M: Now, I’m going to start off by asking you a difficult question. Why would you like to get this post? W: Well, first of all, I know your firm has a very good reputation. I’ve also heard that you offer good opportunities for promotion to the right person. 5. W: Now, I should have failed it yesterday, but it doesn’t seem to be here in “paid invoices” and that’s the right file. I don’t understand... it’s been paid. M: Ah, what about this envelope on your chair? W: Oh here it is! It’s in the right place but it’s attached to the receipt so I couldn’t see it. Section B In this section, you will hear two long conversations. Each conversation will be read only once. After each conversation, there will be a one-minute pause. During the pause, read the five questions, each with three choices marked A, B and C, and decide which is the best answer. Conversation One M: Mm..., where do you recommend I stay? What’s the Holiday Inn like? W: It’s nice there. It’s in the city centre and has all the usual business facilities. The service is the first class. M: Oh, good. So I’ll get a room there. Now, what’s the best way to get to the hotel from the airport? Should I take a taxi? W: Well, you can, but you don’t have to. The subway system is very good. M: Mm..., can you tell me something about business hours there? I mean, what time are the banks open? W: The banks? They open at half past eight and close at four thirty.

I was able to buy it a little over a year ago because I had my relatives give me money for my birthday in stead of a lot of clothes that wouldn’t fit. I let a salesclerk fool me into buying a discontinued model. I realized this a day late, when I saw newspaper advertisements for the set at seventy-five dollars less than I had paid. The set worked so beautifully when I first got it home that I would keep it on until stations signed off for the night. Fortunately, I didn’t got any channels showing all-night movies or I would never have gotten to bed. Then I started developing a problem with the set that involved static (静电) noise. For some reason, when certain shows switched into a commercial, a loud noise would sound for a few seconds. Gradually, this noise began to appear during a show, and to get rid of it, I had to change to another channel and then change it back. Sometimes this technique would not work, and I had to pick up the set and shake it to remove the sound. I actually began to build up my arm muscles(肌肉) shaking my set. When neither of these methods removed the static noise, I would sit helplessly and wait for the noise to go away. At last I ended up hitting the set with my fist, and it stopped working altogether. My trip to the repair shop cost me $62, and the set is working well now, but I keep expecting more trouble.

23.【答案】D 【解析】根据“not only...but also...” 故选A。 C项干扰性很强,但是与原文第三段第二句“The number of cities producing CO beyond the standard has been reduced from 40 to 9.” 故选A。
