Role of the EMS Board

The EMS Board is regulatory and advocacy Board that:

?administers and enforces the provisions of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC 4765);

?makes recommendations to the General Assembly on legislation to improve the delivery of EMS;

?establishes standards for the performance of EMS providers including certification and training;

?establishes qualifications & standards of performance for EMS providers, instructors, accredited institutions and CE approved

institutions;

?establishes and maintains a state trauma registry;

?administers a grant program for training, research & equipment purchase;

?maintains an EMS incidence reporting system;

?maintains a statewide EMS plan; and

?serves as a statewide clearinghouse for discussion, inquiry, and complaints concerning emergency medical services.

Advises & counsels the EMS Executive Director on:?establishment and maintenance of fire service training programs for positions of any fire training certification level;

?classification and chartering of fire service training programs; and

?training curriculum, certification examinations, training schedules, minimum hours of instruction, attendance requirements, required equipment and facilities, basic physical requirements, and

methods of training for all persons in positions of any fire training certification level.

Fire and Fire Safety Inspector Training Committee Meetings ?The Committee meets the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 AM at the Ohio Department of Public Safety in Columbus.

?The Ohio Administrative Code (OAC 4765) provides guidance on how to implement EMS and Fire services.

?The Division develops and enhances a statewide, comprehensive, systematic response to injury, illness and fire, primarily through education and training, certification and strategic planning.
