BEIJING - The general office of the State Council 41 a plan on Monday to improve national food safety, setting the tone for this year's program, which includes emphasizing the accountability(问责制)of the system.

As part of a two-year 42 that began last month, the plan details 11 points for reforming food safety in China, aiming to solve problems and 43 public confidence in the products that are available on the market.

One of the points concerned the quality of farm products.

"Tests on pesticide residues in vegetables, fruits, teas, domestic fungus, animal products and sea food should be enforced. Regulations on pesticide production and sales, 44 random checks on pesticide quality, should be 45 ," according to the plan.

The statement follows a recent food scandal in which a banned pesticide was found in some cowpeas (豇豆)grown in Hainan province that were sold in several parts of the country, including Hubei, Guangdong, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces.

The plan, which requires increased supervision of fresh dairy products, also proposed a clampdown(取缔)on 46 purchasing stations as well as severe punishments for the use of the banned medications malachite green (孔雀石绿)in the aquaculture(水产养殖)industry.

Other points include banning illegal food additives, improving food production and processing, as well as the importing and exporting of food.

The work plan has brought food production and processing into focus and placed an 47 on establishing the accountability of the food safety system.

"Any governmental department that fails to fulfill its duty should be 48 punished. Responsible persons 49 with late and concealed reports on food safety accidents will be called to account," the plan stated. III. Reading Comprehension (15 分)

Email has had a good run as king of communications. But its leading position is over. In its place, a new 50 of services is starting to take hold -- services like Twitter and Facebook and countless others competing for a piece of the new world.

Years ago, we were 51 if it took a few days for a letter to arrive. A couple of years ago, we'd complain about a half-hour 52 in getting an email. Today, we make complaints about it taking an extra few seconds for a text message to 53 . In a few months, we may be complaining that our cell phones aren't automatically able to send 54 to friends within a certain distance, letting them know we're nearby. (A number of services already do this.)

These new services also make communicating more 55 and informal -- more like a blog comment or a throwaway aside, rather than a crafted email sent to one person. No need to spend time 56 a long email to your half-dozen closest friends about how your vacation went. Now those friends, if they're interested, can watch it unfold in real time online. 57 sending a few emails a week to a handful of friends, you can send dozens of messages a day to hundreds of people who know you, or just 58 do.

But the 59 and ease of communication cut both ways. While making communication more frequent, they can also make it less 60 and intimate. Communicating is becoming so easy that the recipient knows how little time and thought was required of the sender. Yes, your half-dozen closest friends can read your vacation updates. But so can your 500 other friends. And if you know all these people are 61 your updates, you might say a lot less than you would otherwise.

That can make it harder to determine the 62 of various messages. In the new messaging world, you have a lot of personal information, packed with data you want to share and possibly some you don't. Such information has its pluses and minuses. It can 63 the people communicating closer, allowing them to exchange not only text but also all sorts of personal information, even facial cues. You know a lot about the person you are talking to, even before you've ever 64 a single word.

He then added a box of pebbles (鹅卵石)to the jar, shaking it lightly The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the rocks. "Is the jar filled now?" The students said yes.

But then he poured a bag of sand into the bottle. The sand filled in everything else. Once more he asked if it was full and after some thinking they said that it was.

After a long period of study and work, the young Americans burst through the school doors singing.

But unfortunately, American students do very poorly and are among the worst students in the world. In the entire field of subjects---from geography and maths to science and general knowledge. American students are the poorest performers. Why? What’s the reason behind the scene? One problem lies in the fact that so little is expected from them. The standards of success are too low. Teachers are not willing to give out low grades and fail students. Besides, the existing negative results are few and mean little to students if their performance in study is poor . Of success some students realize that a high school diploma is a measure of success and will be important to get a job or get admitted into college. But they only have to go through the motions without really trying. They learn to get by with a minimum of effort.

In America, it is simply too easy for high school students to enter college. This forms a sharp contrast with the students in China and other Asian countries who have to suffer heavy pressure from parents, teachers and cruel social facts. Chinese students have to study hard for long years to pass the national college entrance examination which few Americans will take such trouble to enter to university. The majority American students know that they will be able to get into some college, so they do not really worry about it.

It turns out that American high school students are just too busy to find time to study. They spend almost no time on study while students from other countries spend four or five hours per day on homework. American students on the average give less than five hours per week to their studies. Learning and reading for future are not important to them. Many American never read. It is little wonder why Americans knows less than students from other countries.

69. Why are American students the poorest performers in the entire field of subjects?

A. Because they are too busy to find time to study.

B. Because they are too stupid and too lazy.

C. Because they care little about their study.

D. Because so little is required from them

70. Which of the following is Not true ?

A. Most of American students spend lees than five hours on their study every week.

B. Few American students have trouble to enter college.

C. American students can be admitted into college even without a high school diploma.

D. It is hard for the students in China to enter college.

71. What seems to be the writer’s attitude towards American students?

A. He probably thinks much should be expected from them.

B. He is in favour of American students’ learning methods.

C. He s hows no interest in American students’ study.

D. He thinks American students study hard. (C)

Farmers in the United States sometimes plant switchgrass as a border crop. But could this tall grass lower the nation’s dependence on foreign oil?

The Department of Energy plans to invest hundreds of millions of dollars to help produce fuels from materials that are not part of the food supply. Growing corn, or maize, for fuel has raised concerns about the supply and cost of corn available for food and animal feed.

Fuel made from switchgrass or forestry waste like sawdust(锯屑) is known as cellulosic(有纤维质的) ethanol(酒精). Department officials say it contains more energy and produces fewer greenhouse gases than ethanol made from corn. Switchgrass is also easier to grow.

Last month, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences published a study of switchgrass grown on low-quality land. Government scientist Ken Vogel was the lead author. The study says the switchgrass produced five times more energy than was needed to grow it. Also, it says switchgrass, over its lifetime from crop to fuel, produces much less carbon compared to gasoline.

Fossil fuels like oil take carbon from the ground and release it as waste gas when the fuel is burned. Biofuels(生物燃料) like corn and cellulosic ethanol also produce greenhouse gases, through growing crops and making the fuel. The difference is that biofuels remove carbon from the atmosphere through the growth of the feedstock, the material for the fuel.

Science magazine just published two studies of biofuels and the heat-trapping gases that scientists link to climate change. One of the reports notes that most studies have found that substituting biofuels for gasoline will reduce greenhouse gases.

But it says the earlier studies failed to count the carbon released into the atmosphere as farmers worldwide react to higher prices. They are clearing forests and grasslands to make way for new cropland to replace the grain used for biofuels. Doing so can release much of the carbon stored in the plants and soil, and sacrifice future storage.

The study found that corn-based ethanol could increase greenhouse gases for years from land use change. And it found that biofuels from switchgrass, if grown on American corn land, could also increase emissions, though by less. The study team, led by Timothy Searchinger at Princeton University, says the

result shows the value of using waste products for fuel. The other report says carbon savings depend on how biofuels are produced.

72.Switchgrass is a better fuel than corn in all the following aspects except .

A.switchgrass grows on low–quality land

B.switchgrass produces more energy than corn

C.switchgrass produces fewer greenhouse gases than corn

D.swiotchgrass is easier to grow

B.there will be an increase in price of corn for food if it is used as fuel

C.there will be an decrease in quantity of corn for food if it is used as fuel

D.all the above choices are right

74.Biofuels produces much less carbon compared to Fossil fuels in that . A.biofuels produce less greenhouse gases than fossil fuels

B.fossil fuels release carbon while biofuels not when burning

C.biofuels take in carbon from the air when they are growing

D.biofuels produce greenhouse gases only when they are burning

75.The passage indicates that .

A.we’d better make full use of biofuels to protect the environment

B.the value of using biofuels remains to be further studied

C.it’s costless to grow biofeuls

D.biofuels are just switchgrass and corn

Directions: Read the following text and choose the most suitable heading from A-F for each paragraph. There is one extra heading which you do not need.

A. Encourage children to talk and think.

B. Show the children how things work.

C. Have patience while teaching.

D. Share the children’s curiosity.

E. Listen to children’s questions before explaining.

F. Frequently give children a push so as to help them learn better.

76. __________________

Children start out as natural scientists, eager to look into the world around them. Helping them enjoy science can be easy: there’s no need for a lot of scientific terms or expensive lab equipment. You only have to share your children’s curiosity.

77.___________________

Firstly, listen to their question. I once visited a classroom of seven-year-olds to talk about science as a job. The children asked me “textbook questions” about schooling, salary and whether I liked my job. When I finished answering, we sat facing one another in silence. Finally I said, “Now that we’ve finished with your lists, do you have questions of your own about science?” After a long pause,

a boy raised his hand, “Have you ever seen a grasshopper(蚱蜢) eat? When I try eating leaves like that, I get a stomachache. Why?” This began a set of questions that lasted nearly two hours.

78.__________________

Secondly, give them time to think. Studies over the past 30 years have shown that, after asking a question, adults typically wait only one second or less for an answer, no time for a child to think. When adults increase their “wait time ” to three seconds or more, children give more logical, complete and creative answers.

79.__________________

Thirdly, watch your language. Once you have a child involved in a science discussion, don’t jump in with “That’s right” or “Very good”. These words work well when it comes to encouraging good behaviour. But in talking about science, quick praise can signal that discussion is over. Instead, keep things going by saying, “That’s interesting” or “I’d never thought of it that way before”, or coming up with more questions or ideas. Never push a child to “Think”. It doesn’t make sense, children are always thinking, without your telling them to. What’s more, this can turn a conversation into a performance. The child will try to find the answer you want within as few words as possible so that he will be a smaller target for your disagreement.

80.__________________

Lastly, show; don’t tell. Real-life impressions of nature are far more impressive than any lesson. Children can learn from a book or a television program. Let children look at their fingertips through a magnifying glass, and th ey’ll understand why you want them to wash before dinner. Rather than saying that water evaporates, set a pot of water to boil and let them watch the water level drop. Section D (8 分)

Direction: Rea the following passage carefully . Then answer the questions or complete the statement in the fewest possile words.( 注意:该部分的答案请填写在答题纸的相应部分)

Consistent with evidence that physical attractiveness is related to obtaining employment and promotion, more attractive employees also have been found to enjoy more economic success in their careers. A recent study looked at the careers of 2,500 law students from a famous law school in the United States. An independent group of raters(评估人) rated the students' appearance on a scale from one to five. Five years after graduation, those of above-average attractiveness were earning eight to nine percent more than those of below-average attractiveness. After 15 years, those of above-average appearance were earning 12 to 13 percent more.

The research on attractiveness and salaries also suggests that attractiveness is more consistently related to economic success for men than for women. Roszell, Kennedy, and Grabb (1989) examined the relationship of attractiveness to income gaining for over 1,000 Canadians. Attractive persons earned higher annual salaries than less attractive persons. With each increase in rated

attractiveness on a five-point scale of attractiveness, the 1981 annual income of the respondent (应答者,被测者) increased by $1,988. After controlling for respondent gender, the gender composition of the job, and 1979 salary, this figure dropped to 1,046 but was still statistically significant. This relationship was found among men, older employees, and those engaged in male-dominated occupations, but not among women, younger employees, and those in female-dominated occupations.

Two studies at the University of Pittsburgh have provided further evidence that good looks pay. In one study, Good, Olson, and Frieze (1986) used height, weight, and body mass (weight relative to height) as indicators of physical attractiveness. They surveyed over 2,000 M.B.A. graduates of the University of Pittsburgh who graduated between 1973 and 1982. For men, weight but not height was found to predict starting salary, and both height and weight predicted the current (1983) salary. However, neither of these variables predicted the starting and current salary of the women in the sample. For each one-inch increase in height, the salary of the men was $600 higher. Overweight men earned $4,000 less in salary than those of normal weight.

81. What is the advantage of an attractive person according to the first paragraph?

It is easier for an attractive person to __________________________________

82. In the research done by Roszell, Kennedy and Grabb, among what kinds of respondents can an attractive person enjoy more economic success?

Composition

People’s view on cooperation varies from individual to individual. In my opinion, cooperation to society is what air is to man . Never before has cooperation been so important.

Just take the 2008 Nobel Prize for Chemistry as an example. The success relies on the efforts of all the three scientists. Without any of them , the final goal couldn’t have been reached. So cooperation plays a very important role in the fields of scientific research.

However , some people say that cooperation is no longer needed because for the time being , competition is becoming intensely fierce and the society is putting too much emphasis on the individu al’s ability. There is probably some truth in such an argument, but I doubt whether personal efforts are enough to deal with the ever increasing challenges. No matter how great a person is , he or she cannot accomplish everything within his or her own strength. At the same time, everyone has his shortcomings, which will certainly be an obstacle to their success. So cooperation is needed. We cooperate because it is only in such a way that we can work better, live better and achieve better.

All in all , there is no denying that cooperation leads to the improvement of men’s living and working standard.

However, we can usually come across some phenomena in which people parked the shared bikes casually or destroy them on purpose. In fact, shared bikes bring people great convenience as they provide an effective solution to the “last mile” problem. More importa ntly, they are consistent with the idea that we should lead a low carbon life and make joint efforts to protect the environment. Therefore, shared bikes should be left in public for next users at the proper place rather than be possessed privately or destroyed deliberately. So here I would advocate raising our awareness of using shared bikes reasonably so that everyone can benefit from this public service. 1
