Making the world a better place may seem far from our children’s world. I used to think only those people with much money could make it better. I used to think I could do 41 to change the world at such a young age. I used to take everything for granted(理所当然), such as parents’ love and teachers’ care. However, a place called Give Kids the World Village in Florida, America has changed me into a different person.

It was a cold morning 42 Saturday. My mom took me to the place where she usually spent weekends as a volunteer. It’s a special place for families whose children have serious illnesses. What we did there was every simple, just serving ice cream and 43 gifts.

We put some gifts in the car and then started off. We went to the first house but no one was in. We left the gifts at the door for children to 44 when they got back. We went to the next house. A woman answered the door. She told us we could come in. Sitting in the middle of the living room was a young boy in a wheelchair(轮椅). I gave him the gifts and his 45 lit up with happiness. It was the most beautiful smile I had ever seen. I walked out silently with mother and thought to 46 , “That must be a real pain, not being able to jump around or play basketball.”

At another house a bit later, I saw a little girl on a chair with a tube (管道) in her nose. Her brother was feeding her through the tube, because she wasn’t able to 47 by herself. I didn’t know what happened to these kids and I couldn’t imagine 48 unlucky they were.

That day, we handed out gifts from house to house and I found all children there might not live to see tomorrow. I realized being healthy was one of the 49 things and helping others was one of the greatest things. I realized how much I loved the smile on their faces and I could make a difference in their lives. Now, I have been working there as a volunteer for two years. It’s50 been a part of my life. Making the world a better place has nothing to do with money and age. Everybody can do it. Now let’s make a difference in other people’s lives.

For most western travelers, they prefer to travel alone and stay in one place for enough time to fully understand the culture. Because of this, western travelers will read more guidebooks like Lonely Planet for information, while most Chinese tourists choose to travel in groups or with others. They may visit many scenic spots(景点) a day, listening to the tour guide.

One of the most popular activities for Chinese tourists may be taking photos. For a Chinese traveler, a good camera is without doubt a must, and they like to have themselves in the photos just like Japanese and Korean travelers. However, western travelers don’t care too much about the cameras or being in the photos. They care more about the experiences and beautiful views in their eyes. Chinese tourists are fans of shopping, too. They seem very happy to take out their money, spending as much as they want on big things like expensive shoes and handbags. I mostly dislike my parents admiring my classmates who are better than me at certain things. They always say that I’m worse than them. Although it might encourage me to work harder, it will gradually make me lose confidence. I just want my parents to believe in me instead of comparing(比较)me with other kids.

Zhao Yujie, 14, from Jiangsu

I dislike my parents judging (评价) my friends’ grades. To me, a true friend is someone who can offer me help when I’m in need. But this has nothing to do with their grades. I think parents should take a closer look at what my friends are like on the inside, and not judge them on things shown outside.

Li Langjing, 14, from Fujian

My parents want to make decisions for me. It makes me really uncomfortable because I want to live my own life. For example, if I tell them I want to go out with my friends on weekends. They will ask me whom I will go with and what we will do. But I don’t like to share everything with them because I just want to enjoy the time with my friends. However, my parents think that is meaningless.

Cui Jirong, 13, from Shandong

I don’t like my parents looking at their cell phones when they are talking to me. It seems they can’t live without their cell phones. When I am speaking to them, we don’t make eye contact(接触) at all. I feel like they don’t care about me. I think my parents and I should listen to each other carefully. And it will help us understand our feelings better.

It has traveled around the world, gone into space and reached Mount Everest. Over about the last 90 years, the Olympic flame (火焰) has been carried by thousands of people, mostly on foot. On April 21, the Olympic flame was lit again. This means the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games is coming near to us.

In modern times, the Olympic flame means the relationship between man and the fire. This year for the Rio Olympics, there will be about 12,000 people taking part in passing the torch(火炬). However she was met with a small group of anti-government protesters(反政府者) who planned to take away the torch. Luckily the police arrived in time and protected the torch successfully.

“No matter how many difficulties Brazil is facing today, the flame wi ll show to the world that we are all part of the same world,” the International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach told the public. Usually, the flame can burn all the time by using gas. But what if the flame goes out? Don’t worry. There are a few copies of the flame, which are used as backups (备选) and travel with the flame. Are you a fan of traveling? Well, in 20 years, there may be a new place for you to take your vacation - the moon. Last month, the European Space Agency (ESA) published ideas for building an international moon base, or a “Moon Village” by 2030. The village hopes to open the door for deeper space exploration(探索), because people will be able to do more scientific research there. And it can also be a tourist center.

In 1969 after US astronaut Neil Alden Armstrong first arrived on the moon, he made the famous quote (引言), “That’s one small step for a man, one large step for humans.” And now according to the head of the ESA, Johann-Dietrich Woerner, the moon village could be “the next large step for human kind”, because the technology for this is about 20 years away from being real.

“One of the biggest difficult ies of building the moon village is getting the building elements into space without costing too much,” said Matthias Sperl from the German Aerospace Center. Scientists suggest using the ice water and things on the moon, so people don’t have to carry every thing from Earth.

When asked why the ESA chose the moon rather than Mars, Woerner said that he believed a moon village is more realistic (现实的). The moon is about 144 times closer than Mars, so a moon village would probably cut down the cost of sending humans to Mars by as much as $US10 billion every year.

The ESA invited the US, Russia, China, India, Japan and some other countries to join in its moon plan. It hopes that in the future, the moon can become a place where the nations of the world work together.

Who owns the moon village? It belongs to humans but not one country or person. It means that all countries can build bases on the moon if they wish to and are capable (有能力的).

62. According to the passage, the moon will not be used for .

A. deeper space exploration

B. doing more scientific research

C. traveling

D. planting more trees

63. The reason why the ESA chose the moon rather than Mars is that .

B. it will cut down the cost and look more realistic

C. there are more things for buildings on the moon

D. the moon belongs to humans but not any one country or person

64. The Chinese meani ng of the word “elements” in this passage is probably.

B. 费用

C. 图纸

VI. 任务型阅读。(每小题2分,共8分)阅读下文并回答问题。

Once upon a time there was a very, very old man who lived with his only son. As the man was so old, he was nearly blind and deaf, and his legs shook when he tried to walk.

When he sat at the table to eat, he often dropped some of his food on the table and sometimes on his clothes.

His son and his wife did not like this. So they made him sit in the corner of the house. There they gave him his food in an old bowl, and often did not give him enough.

The old man was very sad, but he said nothing. One day his hands shook so much that he could not hold the bowl. It fell to the ground and broke to pieces.

The son’s wife shouted at him angrily, “What a careless old man you are!” But he did not say anything. He only felt very sad.

Then they bought a cheap wooden bowl so that the old man would not break it.

One day, the old man's little grandson was sitting on the ground by him. The little boy was trying to fit some pieces of wood together.

“What are you making?” asked the old man.

“I am making a wooden bowl,” said the child.

“What are you making it for?” asked the old man.

“I can feed my dad and mom when I grow up,” answered the little boy.

When his father heard these words, he looked at his wife. They felt very uneasy and began to cry. Then they said to the old man, “We are wrong. Please forgive us!”

71. Did the old man live alone?

In a few months, you will 80 senior high school. Then, in Senior 2 or even Senior 1, you will face your choice - becoming a humanities (人文学科) student or a science student. In the national college entrance examination, humanities students will take exams in history, geography and politics (政治)while science students take physics, chemistry and biology (生物)tests. But some people can ’t accept both of the choices 81 they think they ’re not good for a person ’s further study. They think studying fewer subjects means getting less knowledge. “The division (分科) seems easier, but it is 82 to students’ future development. Many students will lack (缺乏) creative thinking because they only study three subjects at such a young age. With only learning humanities 83 science, the students will just spend time on the things about exam subjects and that will make them lose the chance to know more. So I think it ’s a good thing to study 84 science and humanities subjects at the same time .” said Xu Li, vice president of Wuhan No. 1 middle school.

In that case, China is actually changing its national college entrance exams now. Over 12 areas have already said they won ’t have the science-humanities division in the next few years. Students could choose to take exams in any three subjects out of the six.

However, not everyone likes this change. Some argue that the 85 will make students confused (迷惑)and they won’t make the right choices , others worry that learning all the six subjects could make students tired 86 the division like before.

Some schools in Shanghai have already found keys to helping students get used to this change and make better choices. They encourage students to take part in more activities and learn more subjects. With such help from school, students can find their life goals and better plan their life . “I think we teachers should help students make a plan of their study and life. If they make clear plans with our help, they can find the important things to themselves.” said Wang Yang, president of Shanghai Caoyang No 2 High School. “Although it’s not an easy thing to do, we will try our best to help our students 87 the meanings of their life.”
